LAS VEGAS, Nev. - University of Colorado Colorado Springs freshman
Whitney Weber went two-of-three at the plate and stole on base as the Mountain Lions (2-3) closed out the Desert Stinger Classic in an 8-0 loss to St. Edward's (8-5) today. Weber and
Kylie Barnard each extended their hitting streaks to five games to start their collegiate careers.
The Hilltoppers scored one unearned run in the bottom of the first inning and
Korey Kulpins forced a groundout with the bases loaded to keep it a 1-0 game after the first inning. The Mountain Lions put runners in scoring position in the second, third and fourth innings, but couldn't bring them home as St. Edward's built up an 8-run lead after four innings. Weber got a two-out single in the fifth inning, but UCCS couldn't cut into the lead to avoid the run-rule decision in five innings.
Weber finished her first collegiate weekend with eight hits and Barnard went one-of-one to post an RMAC-leading .600 batting average. Weber recorded three multiple-hit games in her first five games.
UCCS will open the RMAC season at home with a four-game series against Adams State Feb. 21-22. First pitch of the home season will be at noon on Saturday for a doubleheader, with a Sunday doubleheader at 11 a.m.
