Taylor Hamilton led the University of Colorado Colorado Springs with 12 kills and four blocks as the Mountain Lions went to extra points in two sets, but Colorado State-Pueblo took the match in a 3-0 decision tonight at Massari Arena. Scores went 29-27, 25-21 and 28-26 for the ThunderWolves.
UCCS put together a 5-1 run in the first set to tie the set at 18-18, and then held set point at 24-21 with another four-point rally. CSU-Pueblo scored the next three points to even the set at 24-24, and both teams tied again at 25-25 and 25-25. A solo block from
Cassidy Bush put the Mountain Lions in position for another set point, but the ThunderWolves scored the next points to take the opening set 29-27.
The Mountain Lions opened a 7-4 advantage in the second set and earned six of the points off of four kills, an ace and a block. Hamilton recorded three of the kills in the opening points of the set, with back-to-back kills ahead of a CSU-Pueblo timeout.
