COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs used goals from
Dana Shellhorn and
Bailee Jameson to win the first playoff game in program history in a 2-0 victory against New Mexico Highlands in the RMAC Tournament First Round. The Mountain Lions (11-6-2) will move on to the semifinal round and take on Fort Lewis on Friday at 4 p.m., in Golden, Colo.
Brandi Arsenault earned her sixth shutout of the season in her first appearance since Oct. 25. It was the seventh team shutout of the season to tie for the second-most in season records.Arsenault made five saves in the performance and moved into a tie for fifth in UCCS season records.
UCCS scored its first goal late in the first half after
Michaela Mansfield's shot was saved but not controlled by the Highlands keeper. Shellhorn was in front of the net to put the ball into the net with 5 minutes, 56 seconds left in the half. The Mountain Lions finished the half with a 5-1 shots-on-goal adantage for the 1-0 lead at the break.
Jameson scored the second goal in the 79th minute on a long pass from
Taylor Braden on the right sideline. Jameson moved into a tie for ninth in UCCS season records with her sixth goal of the season and into a tie for third in sophomore season records. Braden's assist was her seventh of the season to move her into a tie for second in program records, and she moved alone into third in career records with her 11th.
