COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. –
Bailee Jameson scored her fourth goal of the season in the second minute tonight, but Colorado Mesa evened the score right before halftime and the goals would stand as the Mountain Lions (7-3-2, 4-2-2 RMAC) tied with the Mavericks (1-8-3, 1-5-3 RMAC) 1-1 tonight in Mountain Lion Stadium. The tie moved UCCS alone into third in the RMAC standings tonight.
Jameson scored off a corner kick when
Taylor Braden put the ball into play from the right corner. The kick from Braden found Jameson about 3 feet in front of the goal, and she placed the ball into the corner past the goalkeeper to put UCCS ahead of the Mavericks 1-0. Colorado Mesa put three shots against the Mountain Lions in a three-minute span soon after the goal, and were able to put the equalizer on the board after a shot from the right side bounced off of the left goal post and angled into the goal. The teams would go into halftime tied 1-1.
UCCS used a four-minute stretch early in the second half to put up six shots and had two corner kick opportunities, and held an overall 11-7 advantage in the half but couldn't put a shot past the Colorado Mesa defense. Mountain Lion goalkeeper
Brandi Arsenault made three saves to keep the Mavericks off the scoreboard in the half and the teams went to overtime with the score still at 1-1.
Mandy Timmermeyer made the only shot on goal for either team in the overtime periods with a shot in the 91st minute. The tie resulted in the second draw of the season for the Mountain Lions and the seventh straight game the defense gave up one or no goals.
Arsenault finished the game with seven saves.
Bethany Leliefeld led UCCS with five shots and Jameson led both teams with three shots on goal.
UCCS will stay at home for a Sunday game at noon against Westminster (6-4-1, 3-3-1 RMAC). The Griffins played to a 2-2 tie against Western State earlier today.
