UCCS Posts Largest Victory Margin of Season in Win vs. Griffins

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs posted its largest margin of victory this season with goals from three different Mountain Lions in a 3-0 victory against Westminster today at Mountain Lion Stadium. UCCS (8-3-2, 5-2-2 RMAC) is tied for the third-most wins in a season in program history with five regular season games left.

UCCS earned goals from Michaela Mansfield, Bailee Jameson and Dana Shellhorn. Brandi Arsenault earned her fourth shutout of the season to move into a tie for second in UCCS career records.

Taylor Braden pushed the ball down the field to Mansfield on a breakaway, and Mansfield went one-on-one with the Griffin goalkeeper for her fifth goal of the season. Westminster out-shot the Mountain Lions 7-5 in the first half, but UCCS held a 3-1 shots-on-goal advantage as the Mountain Lions went to the half with a 1-0 lead.

Jameson scored her fifth goal of the season 10 minutes into the second half to extend the UCCS lead to 2-0. Jameson and Mansfield both moved into a tie for ninth in UCCS season records today. Shellhorn clinched the game with a goal off a corner kick from Paige VonBank in the 80th minute for her third goal of the season. Shellhorn's goal was No. 18 for the Mountain Lions this season to match last year's scoring total.

The three goals matched the most in a game this season and were the most since the RMAC-opener against Regis last month. UCCS is tied for second in the conference in total goals while Jameson and Mansfield are both tied for the most goals for a conference student-athlete.

Arsenault made five saves to preserve the shutout. She hasn't given up more than a goal in the last eight games and is third in the conference in shutouts and fourth in goals-against average.

The Mountain Lions will be off for a week before a trip to Gunnison, Colo., for a 1 p.m., game at Western State. The Mountaineers won the first meeting between the two teams 1-0 in Colorado Springs.
