GUNNISON, Colo. –
Grace Ramsden made 11 saves and
Mandy Timmermeyer scored her first goal of the season in the second half as the University of Colorado Colorado Springs earned a 1-0 non-conference win today against Western State at Gateway Field. The Mountain Lions improved to 9-3-2 on the fifth shutout of the season.
Ramsden's first start of the season came as Western State put up 23 total shots and 11 shots on goal. The total shots was the most for the Mountaineers in a conference game and the shots on goal were the second-most in the RMAC schedule. The 11 saves by Ramsden tied for the seventh-most in program history.
The teams were scoreless in the first half as the Mountaineers put up a 9-5 shot advantage against the Mountain Lions. Western State took another nine shots against UCCS' two shots in the first 18 minutes of the second half before Timmermeyer's shot from 12 yards out in the 65th minute broke the stalemate. Ramsden made three saves in the rest of the game to preserve the shutout.
The result was the second straight shutout for the Mountain Lions and the fifth shutout in the season is tied for fourth in program records. Ramsden moved alone into fifth in UCCS career records with her third shutout and became the third Mountain Lion to surpass 100 career saves in program history.
Taylor Braden led the offense with four shots with two on goal.
UCCS will travel for the final weekend of the regular season on Oct. 23 against Colorado Christian and Oct. 25 against Colorado Mines. The games will be the final contests that will count for the Mountain Lions in the 2015 standings. UCCS is third in the RMAC standings with 17 points.
