LAKEWOOD, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's soccer team qualified for its fifth RMAC Tournament in program history with goals from
Paige VonBank and
Michaela Mansfield as the Mountain Lions (10-3-2, 6-2-2 RMAC) earned a 2-0 win at Colorado Christian (0-14-2, 0-10 RMAC) at Trailbalzer Stadium. Goalkeeper
Brandi Arsenault earned her fifth shutout of the season with two saves.
VonBank's goal in the 38th minute was the first of her collegiate career, while Mansfield's goal in the 50th minute was the sixth of the season and the 16th of her career. Mansfield moved into a tie for eighth in season records and moved to within two goals of third in career records.
Arsenault's fifth shutout moved her alone into second in UCCS career records and third in season records. It was the third straight shutout of the season for the Mountain Lions.
Mansfield provided the cross into VonBank for the game-winning goal in the first half. The three points for Mansfield today pushed her season total to a team-high 13 points and 38 in her career.
UCCS held a 27-11 shot advantage and a 12-4 shot-on-goal advantage against the Cougars today. The win marked the second 10-win season in program history and second in UCCS record books behind the 13 wins in 2012. The Mountain Lions have won or tied seven of their last eight games since Sept. 25.
UCCS moved into a tie for second in the RMAC standings with 20 points with Colorado School of Mines. The Orediggers host Western State later today in Golden, Colo. UCCS and Colorado Mines will play each other on Sunday afternoon in Golden, with the winner to have a strong chance at the No. 2 seed in the RMAC Tournament in November.
