GOLDEN, Colo. – University of Colorado Colorado Springs junior
Michaela Mansfield scored her seventh goal of the season with 12 seconds left in the first half, but the Mountain Lions wouldn't be able to keep up with Colorado Mines in a 5-2 decision at Stermole Stadium. UCCS (10-4-2, 6-3-2 RMAC) finished the conference schedule with a guaranteed home game in the RMAC First Round on Nov. 4.
UCCS will either be the No. 3 and No. 4 seed in the conference tournament, and Regis will be the other seed. The Rangers have two conference games left on the schedule and could accumulate enough points in the standings to pass UCCS. The Mountain Lions' last two games will not be considered in the conference standings.
Mansfield's goal right before halftime moved her into a tie for sixth in UCCS season records and one shy of her goal total from 2014. It was career goal No. 16. She is two goals away from tying the UCCS single-season scoring record and for tying for third in program career records.
Mansfield earned a penalty kick opportunity in the 69th minute after the Mountain Lions drew a foul against the Oredigger goalkeeper. The kick was missed but UCCS earned the corner kick on the same possession. Mansfield took a shot that hit the crossbar, and
Mandy Timmermeyer scored her second goal of the season on the rebound. It was her second goal in the last three games after her game-winner at Western State on Oct. 18.
The Mountain Lions will close out the regular season at home with non-conference games on Friday against Fort Lewis and on Sunday against Adams State. UCCS won the first game against Adams State this season 1-0 and fell in overtime 1-0 at Fort Lewis.
