Box Score COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - University of Colorado Colorado Springs junior forward
Sam Patterson led a balanced Mountain Lion scoring effort with 12 points as No. 22 UCCS (12-1 / 7-1 RMAC) won its fourth straight game in a 73-58 win against Western State (4-9 / 3-6 RMAC) in the Third Annual Downtown Classic. Patterson came one rebound short of a double-double with nine boards.
The win for the Mountain Lions, when combined with the 49-45 win by Colorado Mesa at Colorado State-Pueblo earlier tonight, will setup a matchup of the conference's top two teams on Saturday in the Gallogly Events Center.
Neither team could take more than a one possession advantage through the first nine minutes of the game until Patteron made back-to-back jumpers to put the Mountain Lions ahead at 16-12 with 10:46 left in the first half. UCCS put together a 9-2 for a 30-20 advantage with four minutes left in the half and led 36-26 at the break. The Mountaineers would cut it down to a six-point game early in the half, but the Mountain Lions led by double figures for the final 17 minutes of the game.
Patterson recorded season highs in both scoring and rebounding with a perfect six-of-six performance from the field.
Abby Kirchoff added 11 points and
Jessika Kienitz and
Brittany Hernandez both finished with 10. Hernandez matched Patterson's nine rebounds and added three steals and three blocked shots on defense.
UCCS and Colorado Mesa will tip-off at 5:30 p.m., on Saturday evening. Admission is free for all fans.
