COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -
Abby Kirchoff led a balanced scoring effort while the University of Colorado Colorado Springs defense held Western New Mexico to no three-pointers in a 77-54 win for the Mountain Lions (17-3 / 12-2 RMAC) tonight against the Mustangs (10-8 / 7-7 RMAC). UCCS improved to 8-1 at home this season and earned the season sweep of Western New Mexico.
The Mountain Lions put together a 12-2 run midway through the first half to take an 18-10 lead with 9:23 to play in the half. UCCS would lead 32-23 at halftime and lead by at least 10 points for the final 19 minutes of the game.
Kirchoff scored 14 points to lead both teams and moved into ninth in UCCS single season records with 413 points this season.
Brittany Hernandez scored 13 and added a game-high eight rebounds.
Jessika Kienitz scored 11 and
Anna Hubbell led the bench with a season-high 10 points.
The Mountain Lions remain in a tie for first in the RMAC standings with Colorado Mesa. The Mavericks defeated Colorado Mines 83-66 tonight in Golden, Colo.
UCCS will remain at home tomorrow night for a 5:30 p.m., game against New Mexico Highlands. The Cowgirls (4-13 / 3-10 RMAC) fell to Colorado State-Pueblo 65-60 tonight.
