#12 Mountain Lions Continue Road Trip at Chadron State

1/24/2015 1:22:00 PM

CHADRON, Neb. – After holding off a late surge from Black Hills State last night, the No. 12 University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's basketball team will continue its best season in program history tonight when the Mountain Lions (16-2 / 10-2 RMAC) take on Chadron State (4-12 / 3-9 RMAC) at 7:30 p.m., at the Chicoine Center. UCCS will be playing for its fifth straight win against the Eagles.

Alex Welsh became the eighth Mountain Lion in program history with 1,000 career points after his game-leading 26 points against the Yellow Jackets. He needs 48 points to tie for seventh in career records, and needs 17 rebounds to move into third in that category. Welsh stands with 482 career rebounds, and he will become the third Mountain Lion in program history with 1,000 points and 500 rebounds when he reaches that mark.

UCCS maintained its lead in the conference for largest average victory margin after the one-point win against Black Hills State at 16.8 points per game. The Mountain Lions continue to lead the RMAC with 88.6 points per game, an average that is on pace to break last year's program record by more than four points per game.

Derrick White retook the lead in the conference scoring statistics with 25 points last night and improved to seventh in UCCS record books with 460 points this season. He needs 25 to tie Kevin Fletcher's 485 points from the 2001-02 season. White also moved past the 400-rebound mark of his career with eight boards last night and into sixth in all-time records with 406 in his career.

Chadron State is coming off of a 77-61 win last night against Colorado State-Pueblo, a victory that snapped a nine-game losing streak. Evan Brooks scored 18 in the game and made four assists in the Eagle victory.

Fans will be able to follow tonight's game with live stats through Chadron State, live audio through UCCS and live video streaming through America One Sports. Fans can also watch the game for free at Clyde's, located on the lower level of the University Center.
