Live Video (America One Sports)COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – For the fourth straight season and the 13th time overall, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's soccer team will compete in postseason play when the Mountain Lions begin the 2014 RMAC Tournament on Wednesday. UCCS (9-8-1) will be the No. 5 seed in the tournament and face No. 4 seed Fort Lewis (11-7) at 2:30 p.m., at Dirks Field in Durango, Colo.
RMAC Coach of the Year
Johnnie Keen is unbeaten in the first round of the conference tournament, with a victory in 2012 and a tie in 2013. A win on Wednesday would mark the second semifinal appearance in a three-year span and mark the first 10-win season for UCCS since 2003.
Fort Lewis won the only meeting between the two teams in a 1-0 decision on Sept. 26, in Durango, Colo. The stats were relatively even, with shots 13-10 in favor of the Skyhawks and shots-on-goal equal at 7-7.
David Meyer made six saves, the second-highest of his freshman season.
UCCS has won five of its last six games, while Fort Lewis enters the game on a three-game winning streak, all in overtime.
Mathew Cox scored three times in a four-game span from Oct. 19-31, and UCCS outscored opponents 16-5 in the last six games.
The Mountain Lions have the fifth-best scoring offense and the third-best goals-against average in program history. RMAC First Team selection
James Roberts has led the offense with 27 points and 11 goals, both good for fourth in individual season records. The other First Team member,
Liam Levy-Philipp, has led the defensive effort while also getting in on the defense with two goals and three assists this season. The duo are the first All-RMAC First Team members for UCCS since 2008 and the first time that two Mountain Lion student-athletes were on the First Team since 2000.
