Box Score GOODWELL, Okla. – No. 9 University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's basketball used a 14-2 run early in the second half to break a 55-55 tie and take a 93-82 win against Oklahoma Panhandle State tonight at the Oscar Williams Field House. The Mountain Lions improved to 5-0 to continue their best start in program history.
Derrick White led both teams with 25 points and a career-high 11 assists in the second points-assists double-double of his career.Â
Alex Welsh finished with a game-high 11 rebounds and scored 13 points in his ninth career double-double.
UCCS never trailed and led by as many as 14 points with 10 minutes left in the first half. The Aggies closed the Mountain Lion lead down to one point at halftime, 50-49, and tied the game at 55-55 with 17:22 to play in the second half.
A dunk by
Alex Welsh sparked the 14-2 run during the next three minutes to put the Mountain Lions ahead 69-57. Oklahoma Panhandle pulled back within five points at 87-78 with 4:42 to play, but UCCS didn't let the Aggies get any closer in the win tonight.
Tim Billingsley scored 16 points and
Darius Pardner scored 10 points off the bench to round out the leading scorers for UCCS. The Mountain Lions shot better than 50 percent from the field for the fourth straight game with 52.9 percent to offset the 50.9 percent by Oklahoma Panhandle tonight.
UCCS will be wrap up the non-conference season on Monday, Dec. 1, in a home game against Johnson & Wales. The Wildcats (0-9) will play two games this weekend in Lakewood, Colo., against Colorado Christian and Dordt.
