UCCS Falls to No. 23 Regis

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs volleyball team (7-7 / 3-3 RMAC) falls to No. 23 Regis (8-6 / 4-1 RMAC) tonight in straight sets.

The first set went back and forth with eight tie scores. UCCS doubled Regis in blocks in the set with four, but the Rangers were able to gain momentum late in the set as they closed out the first game with a 25-21 win.

The Mountain Lions were led on offense in the first set by Kristen Sciacca, who recorded six of her eight kills of the match. Sciacca entered the weekend first in the RMAC in hitting percent, and followed suit in the first set as she hit .545.

Regis continued its momentum into the second set as the team started on a 4-0 run. UCCS responded quickly as it tied the set 6-6. The teams traded the next six points to tie the score at nine apiece. That was the last time the set would be tied though, as the Rangers went on a 10-1 run to gain control of the game.

Jordan Banich and Laura Loosbrock each had four kills in the set. Banich finished with nine kills and a team-high 10 digs. Loosbrock finished with a team-high and match-high 10 kills while also recording a team-high hitting percent of .348.

The third set was the most closely contested with 13 tie scores and four lead changes.  The Mountain Lions fell behind 19-14 in the set, but finished on a 9-6 run. Unfortunately for UCCS, the sixth point the Rangers scored during the run was their 25th point, which concluded the set and the match.

Freshman Emily Whitelaw led the Mountain Lions in the final set with four of her six kills. Whitelaw finished with team-highs of three block assists and two solo blocks.

Up Next: UCCS will be on the road next weekend as the team travels to New Mexico for a pair of conference matches. The road trip will begin on Thursday as the Mountain Lions play Western New Mexico (11-3 / 4-2 RMAC) and concludes on Saturday as they play New Mexico Highlands (7-8 / 1-5 RMAC).
