Jordan Banich finished with eight kills and a season-high .300 hitting percentage as the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (7-8 / 3-4 RMAC) fell 3-0 at Western New Mexico (12-3 / 5-2 RMAC) tonight at Drags Court in Silver City, N.M. The Mountain Lions dropped their sets by 25-18, 25-20 and 25-20 scores.
Banich and Emily Whitelaw both led UCCS with eight kills, and Whitelaw added a team-high three blocks on defense.
Grace Gordon continued to average nine or more assists per set during the conference schedule with 29 assists tonight. She also led UCCS with nine digs and was one of four Mountain Lions with seven or more digs.
UCCS used a six-point rally in the second set to take a 16-10 lead and force a Western New Mexico timeout. Another 8-3 run in the third set put the Mountain Lions ahead 16-11, but in both instances, the Mustangs rallied on its home court to claim both sets 25-20. UCCS posted 14 kills in both of the final two sets, the best performance in back-to-back sets since Chadron State on Sept. 28.
Up Next: The Mountain Lions will complete its New Mexico schedule on Saturday in a 7 p.m., match at New Mexico Highlands. The Cowgirls (7-9 / 1-6 RMAC) fell at home in straight sets to Regis tonight.
