Mansfield Scores as Regis Upends Mountain Lions

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.- The University of Colorado Colorado Springs (6-2, 3-2 RMAC) women's soccer team dropped a close match against Regis (3-4-1, 1-3-1 RMAC) in blistering conditions tonight.

The Mountain Lions dominated play in the first 45:00, outshooting the Rangers by a mark of 9-4. Despite placing four of those shots on frame, the first half ended in a 0-0 draw.

At the 60:02 minute mark sophomore forward Sade Akindele broke the scoreless tie, finding the right corner of the net on a well-placed ball from the 18 yard box. Thirteen minutes later Akindele scored her second goal of the night off a cross from Meghan Stuart for the game winner.

UCCS nearly completed the comeback when sophomore forward Michaela Mansfield converted on a breakaway in the 80th minute. Sophomore midfielder Brooke Tominello notched her fifth assist of the season when she sent Mansfield the through ball that beat the Ranger back line and goalkeeper Ellen Augsburger. Mansfield now has six points this season with to goals and two assists.

The Mountain Lions outshot Regis 15-13 in the game. After missing last week's matchup against No. 8 Colorado Mines, senior forward Agnes Arnadottir led the UCCS offense with six shot attempts.

UCCS will return to the pitch on Sunday when they travel to Grand Junction, Colo. for a bout with the Mavericks of Colorado Mesa University (4-5-0, 3-2-0).
