UCCS Out Shoots Mavericks in Third Straight Game Decided by a Goal

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - Despite outshooting the Mavericks, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's soccer team (6-3, 3-3 RMAC) dropped its third consecutive one goal loss in a 3-2 decision today to Colorado Mesa (5-5, 4-2 RMAC).

Today's match was the second highest scoring game for the Mountain Lions in 2013. Just 17 minutes in the game, UCCS kicked off the scoring onslaught when senior forward Agnes Arnadottir netted her sixth goal of the season. Kia Jeffords earned an assist on the play as she took the corner kick that Arnadottir headed in for the goal. Jeffords corner kicks have earned her four assists on the season.

Arnadottir notched the lone goal of the first half, as after 45 minutes of play UCCS held the 1-0 lead.

Colorado Mesa came out quick after halftime as CMU midfielder Tayler Franklin netted her fourth goal of the season just 1:33 seconds into the second half. Franklin scored her second of the game just 11 minutes later to give the Mavs the 2-1 lead.

Junior forward Hannah Levett put the Mountain Lions back in the game with less than 10 minutes remaining in regulation when she beat the Mavs goalkeeper for her fifth goal of the season. Freshman midfielder Jess Freeze earned an assist on the play.

The tie was short lived as CMU forward Ashley Wallace scored the game winning goal just 78 seconds later off a corner kick.  Three more shot attempts weren't enough for the Mountain Lions as the game ended in the Mavs favor.

UCCS will return to action on Friday, Oct. 11 when they take on No. 14 Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colo.
