COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.-
Hannah Levett scored the game winning goal tonight as the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's soccer team (8-3, 5-3 RMAC) defeated the Mountaineers of Western State (4-8-1, 1-7-1 RMAC) by a 1-0 score.
One goal was all that was needed tonight for UCCS and
Hannah Levett provided it at the 28:16 minute mark in the first half. Senior forward
Lindsey Birdseye earned her first point of the season with an assist on the play.Â
Birdseye used her speed on the flank to beat a Western State defender and draw the keeper out of position. She connected with Levett at the top of the 18 yard box who found the back of the net for the game winner.Â
Taylor Braden led the Mountain Lions with four shots in the game, placing three on frame.
Kelly Schroeder made six saves to earn her seventh shutout of the season. Schroeder needs just one more shutout to tie the program record she set in 2012 for season shutouts.Â
With tonight's win, the Mountain Lions move to 3-0 in the all-time series record against WSCU. Each game has ended in a 1-0 decision.Â
UCCS will end the weekend on the road this Sunday when they travel to Denver, Colo. to take on  unbeaten and nationally ranked No. 12 Metro State. This will be the third game against a nationally ranked opponent for the Mountain Lions this season.Â
