UCCS plays to tie with CMU for second time this season

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Nothing was decided after 110 minutes of play Sunday afternoon between the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (3-4-3 / 2-3-3 RMAC) and Colorado Mesa University (5-4-3 / 3-2-3 RMAC) as the two conference foes settled for a 0-0 tie at Mountain Lion Stadium.

UCCS goalkeeper Brandon Costa had the busiest day on the field collecting nine saves on the 17 total shots the Mavericks took.

In comparison, the Mountain Lions only managed eight shots in the game. UCCS was limited in its ability to force the issue late in the game after Mid-Fielder James Roberts received a red card in the 75th minute.

The UCCS backline covered down for the shorthanded Mountain Lions led by Max Thomas and Taylor Ferguson.

Costa's shutout was his fourth of the season and moved him into a tie for second on the UCCS all-time list in the statistical category. He is tied with Mike Archuleta who played at UCCS from 1998-01. Greg Meyer has the most shutouts all-time with 21 over the course of his time at UCCS from 1994-97.

With Today's tie the Mountain Lions move into sixth place in the RMAC which is also the last and final playoff spot for the conference tournament. UCCS has six games remaining, only two of which are at home.

This is the second tie between these two teams this season with the previous coming in Grand Junction, Colo. on September 23, 2013. That game ended with a final score of 1-1.

Up Next: UCCS is at home again for their next game this coming Friday against Metro State at 7:30 p.m.
