COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -
Brett Drefs scored his first goal of the season on a header into the right corner and
Mash Shaswar added a penalty kick goal in the second half as the University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's soccer team (1-2) earned a 2-1 victory tonight against Colorado College (1-2) in Mountain Lion Stadium.
The win was the fourth for UCCS in the last five home games and was the third win against the Tigers in the last four meetings. It was also the first collegiate win for Mountain Lion Head Coach
Johnnie Keen.
Drefs scored in the 26th minute on a cross from
Sebastian Hertzberg with a header into the upper right corner to beat goalkeeper Brian Graf. The Mountain Lions outshot the Tigers 10-3 in the opening half to take a 1-0 advantage at the break.
A foul by Colorado College in the far right corner of the goalie box provided the penalty kick opportunity for Shaswar, who put it in above Forrest Marowitz in the 85th minute. The Tigers scored 65 seconds later on a header shot within a large group of players in front of the Mountain Lion goalkeeper.
Shaswar came off the bench to lead both teams with six shots, including two on goal.
Up Next: UCCS will enjoy the next 11 days off before starting the RMAC schedule Sept. 16 against Metro State. The game starts at 11:30 a.m. in Mountain Lion Stadium.
