DENVER, Colo. - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs (8-8-1 / 7-6-1 RMAC) took Metro State to double overtime, but an early goal in the second overtime provided the Roadrunners (11-6-1 / 8-5-1 RMAC) with a 2-1 victory today at Auraria Field in downtown Denver. The decision still allows the Mountain Lions to host a first round game of the conference tournament on Wednesday night.

UCCS took the first four shots of the game, but it was the first shot for Metro State that put the Roadrunners ahead 1-0 in the 17th minute. The Mountain Lions held a shot advantage of eight-to-four and a corner kick advantage of three-to-one, and the game evened at one goal apiece after a Roadrunner deflected the ball into its own net with just more than minute remaining.

Brandon Costa made two saves in the second half to keep Metro State off the scoreboard in the second half. The Roadrunners took 13 shots in the second period, but UCCS took more shots on goal as the teams played to a scoreless period and went to overtime.

Costa made another save in the first overtime period, but a deep shot early in the second overtime period provided the deciding goal for Metro State in the contest. The one-goal margin was the closest between the two teams in Denver since 2004.

Mash Shaswar led the Mountain Lions with four shots and two on goal in 54 minutes of action. UCCS held an advantage for shots on goal, seven-to-six.
