UCCS cannot find offense in 3-0 loss

The long road trip to Las Vegas, N.M. did not do the University of Colorado Colorado Springs any favors as it fell to the New Mexico Highlands Cowgirls 3-0 Friday night at Perkins Stadium.

The Mountain Lions faced the task of containing Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference total points (32) and goals (13) leader Julissa Rodriguez in this important road match.

Unfortunately for the Mountain Lions, Rodriguez is in the midst of a goal-scoring frenzy, finding the net four times in her past three games now.

A goal by Rodriguez off a Marci Johnson assist in the 39th minute got things started for the Cowgirls. Then, before UCCS even knew what happened, Janelle McGee added a goal less than two minutes later in the 40th minute off assists from Kahyra Ramirez and Autumn Woods.

With the game in hand, McGee found her second goal of the night on an assist from Rodriguez in the 78th minute giving the Cowgirls a 3-0 advantage they wouldn't relinquish.

The match brings the UCCS (7-5, 3-5 RMAC) losing streak to three games while New Mexico Highlands (8-6, 6-4 RMAC) extends its winning streak to six in a row.

Shut out for the second time in three games, the Mountain Lions will need to re-find their early season offense as they push for a postseason appearance down the stretch.
