LAKEWOOD - Senior
Jaron Stewart concluded his University of Colorado at Colorado Springs career with a hat trick to lead the Mountain Lions to a season-ending 6-0 victory over the Colorado Christian Cougars Sunday at CCU Soccer Field.
Matt Friesen added a goal and a school-record three assists for UCCS, which ended its season with 5-12-1 record (4-9-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference). The previous record for assists in a single match for UCCS, which began its men's soccer program in 1986, was two and was accomplished 26 times, including three this season.
Ryan Piechowski, another senior, and
Tom O'Dea also scored for UCCS. Seniors
Mike Mason and
Jordan Hacker along with sophomore Gabriel Causse each had assists.
Freshman
Brandon Costa and senior
Adam Liszewski shared the shutout in goal, UCCS' second of the season. Liszewski made the only two saves required.
The Cougars finished their season with a 1-17 mark, 1-13 in RMAC play.
O'Dea opened the scoring in the 24th minute with assists from Mason and Friesen,
Stewart got the first of his goals in the 51st minute, also with an assist from Friesen, who added a goal of his own just under 12 minutes later.
Piechowski made it 4-0 in the 72nd minute with Friesen and Hacker getting assists. Just 3:15 later, Stewart converted a Causse pass to make it 5-0.
Stewart's final score came at the 81:55 mark.
