The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs women's soccer team lost 4-3 in overtime to the Adams State Grizzlies on Sunday afternoon.

The Mountain Lions struck first when Kristin Preble scored her fifth goal of the season less than five minutes into the game. The goal was assisted by Julia Saenz who leads the team with nine assists this season.

Six short minutes later, Adams State answered when Amber Drumm received a corner kick from Kaylee Smith that bounced off of her teammate Jessica Hellweg and scored with a high shot.

The first half goal-fest continued fifteen minutes into the game when Adams State took a 2-1 lead off a UCCS Own goal, and in the sixteenth minute Preble tied the game back up at two with a high arcing shot over Adams State goalkeeper Oralia Gutierrez with the assist coming from Jenna Gist.  Preble's two goals tied her for first on the team this season with six. It was Gist's first assist of the year.

The score tilted back in the Grizzlies' favor with just a minute and a half remaining before intermission when Alex Sanderson kicked a ball from the forty yard line and it went in the far side of the goal.

The score would remain 3-2 for the majority of the second half but UCCS kept attacking until they finally tied the game at three with 1:15 left in the game off a clutch, unassisted goal from Jennifer Joern. The game-tying, momentum-stealing goal was her second of the season and it sent the game to overtime.

In the extra period, both teams stepped up their defense. Only four shots were allowed in OT and everyone was prepared to go to double overtime when just 45 seconds were left on the clock when a scramble for the ball in front of the Mountain Lions goal resulted in a foul being called on UCCS and Adams was awarded a penalty kick. Drumm took full advantage of the situation with her second goal of the game and her teammates stormed the field to celebrate with her.

"We need to come together as a team," UCCS coach Nichole Ridenour said after the game. "Right now, we have individuals playing as individuals instead of having a team mentality. It's been a brutal couple of trips, we had five games in nine days for the second time this year so the girls are worn down but that's no excuse. If we played as a team, we would have come out much stronger and would have held that lead that we had."

The Mountain Lions are now 6-8-1 this year but get some much needed rest before traveling to Golden to play Colorado School of Mines on Friday. UCCS returns home for their final two games of the season on October 29th and 31st.
