GOLDEN - The No. 1-ranked Colorado School of Mines Orediggers defeated the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs 4-0 on Friday afternoon to keep the top spot in the nation.
Mines scored its first goal just five minutes into the match when Tesho Akindele assisted Baski Baker's eighth goal of the season.
The rest of the half was more of the same as CSM scored three more goals before the halfway point of the game. Akindele was the man responsible for all three of Mines' remaining scores. Akindele leads the team, and the RMAC, in scoring. Friday's hat trick brought him up to 12 goals on the season.
Alex Gunberg and Chike Sullivan assisted one goal apiece making their season totals 6 and 8 respectively. Akindele's assist was his 4th of the year.
UCCS only managed two shots on goal all afternoon which was a testament to the great all around play of the Orediggers.
The Mountain Lions drop to 2-10-1 this season and after a four game road trip, return home Sunday to host a powerful Metro State squad that was ranked 6th in the national pole until an overtime loss to 25th ranked Fort Lewis last week, dropping them to 11th.
