Pitt's Goal Enough as UCCS Beats Lopers

KEARNEY, Neb. - Coury Pitt's goal in the 37th minute provided all the offense the Mountain Lion's needed as the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs beat the Nebraska-Kearney Lopers 1-0 Sunday afternoon at Foster Field.

It was the third shutout of the season recorded by UCCS (3-4, 2-4 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) but the first by freshman Kayla Millar, who was making her second collegiate start. Millar (1-1) made five saves.

At the 36:48 mark, Kristin Preble sent a ball from midfield that got behind the Lopers' defense. Pitt outran the UNK defenders and slid the ball past goalkeeper Marissa Niday. Niday made 10 saves in the loss. Julia Saenz and Josi Heer had six and five shots respectively for UCCS.

That was all the Mountain Lions stingy defense needed. UCCS outshot UNK 22-10 and kept things clean in front of Millar.

UNK has lost five games by a 1-0 score, four of them at home. Since recording a game winning goal with five minutes left in the season opener, the Lopers haven't scored a goal at home, a span of 485 minutes.
