Mountain Lions Blow Lead, Fall to Regis

DENVER - In what is becoming a disturbing trend, the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs volleyball team blew a 2-0 lead and went on to drop a 3-2 (23-25, 21-25, 25-18, 25-18, 15-9) decision to the Regis Rangers Friday evening at Regis Fieldhouse.

While UCCS' 6-5 record (1-2 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) is far from disastrous, it could and should be better. The Mountain Lions are now 0-4 in five-set matches and have been outscored 60-40 in deciding fifth sets. Worse, they led two of those matches two sets to none and the other two 2-1.

Jenica Shippy led the Mountain Lions with 13 kills, while Andrea Brodie added nine and Nicole Pederson had eight and also participated in five of the Mountain Lions' eight blocks. Defensively, Kendall Utz had a team-best 19 digs and Kelsey Pobar added 12.

Jessica Howe led Regis (5-6, 3-0 RMAC) with 15 kills. Erin Anderson added 13 kills and five assisted blocks.

After posting a sideout percentage (percentage of points won on the opponents' serve) of 62 and 72 percent in the first two sets, those numbers nosedived for UCCS to 47, 41 and 40 percent on the final three sets. Likewise, the Mountain Lions posted hitting percentages of .194 and .161 in the two sets won, followed by .071, .049 and .087.
