PUEBLO - Mike Mason scored in the 27th minute and Adam Liszewski notched his second consecutive shutout as the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs extended its lead in the Steel & Silver Series with a 1-0 victory over the Colorado State-Pueblo Thunderwolves Sunday afternoon at the Rawlings Sports Complex.

Liszewski made three saves and has now logged 186:34 consecutive scoreless minutes. The junior from mesa, Ariz., has three shutouts this season.

UCCS now leads the 2009-10 Steel & Silver Series 10-0, grabbing all four points available for men's soccer and volleyball and two for men's golf. UCCS and CSU-Pueblo will face each other in women's soccer on Wednesday and, since it will be the only meeting this season between the teams, the game will be worth all four points for that sport.

After the teams went through a 20-minute 'feeling out' period Sunday, UCCS turned up the pressure, getting two corner kicks and putting four shots on goal over a two-minute span. CSU-Pueblo goalkeeper Chris Smith was able to parry three of those shots but could not stop the fourth, a breakaway by Mike Mason at 26:14. The unassisted score was Mason's first goal of the season.

UCCS is now 8-1-1 when scoring first since Henry Ellis became the team's coach prior to the 2008 season.

CSUP responded with three corner kicks from 27:37-29:09 but managed just a single shot and no score.

The Thunderwolves continued to apply pressure in the second half, outshooting UCCS 7-2 and getting a 5-0 advantage on corner kicks. The UCCS defense, anchored by center defenders Garrett Maloney and Carlos Verdugo with Jordan Hacker and Riley Gallagher on the outside, forced most of the shots to be of poor quality.

UCCS, which will host winless Adams State on Tuesday, has won its past two matches to improve to 5-6-1 overall, 3-4-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. CSU-Pueblo dropped to 6-7, 2-6 in the RMAC.
