COLORADO SPRINGS - The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs women's soccer team continues to play like a veteran program. The Mountain Lions seemed unwaivered by the #7 ranked Minnesota State-Mankato Mavericks, battling them to a 0-0 draw Friday night at Mountain Lion Stadium.
It was yet again the veteran in the backfield for the Mountain Lions (2-0-1) that kept the first year program playing as though they were seasoned and confident. Senior goalkeeper
Amie Kern had nine saves on her way to recording her third shutout in as many games.
"Between Kern and our defense, we have a great combination," said UCCS coach Nichole Rick. "The defense reacts to what she says and they tackle hard for the ball making it predictable."
The teams played through 90 scoreless minutes in regulation and two 10-minute overtime periods.
The UCCS defense stayed steady although the Mavericks (1-1-1) recorded 19 total shots on the night. However, on the other side of the ball, UCCS kept the pressure on and recorded 15 total shots. Mankato goalkeeper Sheila Reynolds had five saves on the evening.
"The girls fought very hard. Although we missed a few chances, we played very well against a top ranked team," Rick said.
