DURANGO - The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs men's soccer team was handed its third 4-0 loss this season, this time from the Fort Lewis Skyhawks Friday afternoon at Dirks Field.
Early in the first half, Fort Lewis' Euan Purcell got fouled and received a penalty kick which he converted on to make it 1-0. Purcell scored the second goal 7 minutes, 30 seconds into the second half with a pass from David Barden.
The Mountain Lions (2-3, 0-1 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) wouldnâ€TMt allow another goal until late in the second half. With less then 10 minutes remaining, the Skyhawks' Byron Cephers found James Gershfield to make it 3-0.
Cephers would get the fourth goal for Fort Lewis off of a header that would slip past UCCS' goalie
Adam Liszewski (2-3). Liszewski had eight saves in the loss.
In each of the Mountain Lions' three losses, the opponents has scored four goals. The numbers however, are deceiving since out of the 12 goals given up, seven have come with less then 10 minutes remaining and UCCS was pushing additional attackers forward..
The Mountain Lions gave up three goals in a loss to Palm Beach Atlantic, two goals in a loss to Rockhurst, and two goals in Friday's loss to the Skyhawks that were all under the 10-minute mark of the second half.
Zane Wells (2-1) earned the win in goal for Fort Lewis (2-1, 1-0 RMAC).
