Jelisa Guy didn't come to the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs women's soccer team to make history, but she did. Guy had the Mountain Lions' first-ever goal in a 3-0 win over Southwest Minnesota State, Friday afternoon.
Guy not only had the program's first goal midway through the first half, she followed it up with her second goal toward the end of the second half.
"We're extremely excited. We went out there, we worked as a team, it took everyone to step out on the field and create that win," said Guy. "I think this is just a great group of girls and I'm really excited, we're all really excited to have that win under our belt."
It wasn't only a day of firsts for Guy, it was also a day of first for UCCS goalie Amy Kern. The team's only senior not only anchored the defense, but she also had the first shutout for the brand-new program as well as the first assist.
"I think (
Lindsay Link) had a fantastic game especially as a freshman, she's put herself in the right position a lot of the times as a sweeper," said Kern. "Our defense is really starting to click. I mean, you could see it on Monday night in our scrimmage that we really are starting to get an idea of where the other players are going to be."

Friday's game was the first win for the UCCS women's soccer program and the first collegiate win for head coach Nichole Rick.
"It feels great. I think overall the girls are ready to play, they're out to win, and everybody says 'hey, they're a first year team,' but that's not the way we feel," said Rick. "It is a first-year team and that's why we want to make it better than ever."
Goalie Courtney McCarthy took the loss for the Mustangs (0-1), who had only one shot on goal.
UCCS (1-0) was very aggressive on the offensive side, being offsides 11 times.
"We got caught on offsides a little bit here and there, which isn't a bad thing because I do want my forwards to stay up top and hold the top," said Rick, "just a couple things to work on."
