Mountain Lions' playoff hopes officially end with loss at Regis

DENVER- The playoffs will have to wait for the young University of Colorado at Colorado Springs volleyball team.

The Mountain Lions mounted a spirited comeback but were unable to finish it Saturday evening in a 3-2 (25-15, 25-18, 22-25, 14-25, 15-13) loss to the Regis Rangers at Regis Fieldhouse.

After dropping the first two sets, the Mountain Lions (12-14, 7-10 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference), behind four kills by Andrea Brodie, took a close third set 25-22. UCCS followed that by hitting .300 in a dominant 25-14 fourth set.

The Mountain Lions led the deciding fifth set 11-8, but Liz Franz had a kill and an assisted block to spark a five-point Regis run. Brodie and Molly Crockett scored back-to-back kills to tie it at 13, but a Franz kill and a UCCS attack error ended the match and the Mountain Lions slim playoff hopes.

Regis improved to 14-11 overall. The Rangers and Mesa State, which also won Saturday, improved their respective RMAC records to 10-7, officially eliminating UCCS.

Crockett and Brodie each had 11 kills to lead UCCS, while Lauren Orth added 10. Kelsey Pobar had a match-high 17 digs.

Franz led Regis with 12 kills.
