The Fort Lewis Skyhawks blanked the UCCS Mountain Lions 6-0 Friday night at Mountain Lion Stadium for their seventh shutout of the season.

The Skyhawks (11-5-1, 8-3-1 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) controlled the game and outshot the Mountain Lions 24-7 with a 14-4 advantage with shots on goal.

The Skyhawks opened the scoring in the third minutes when a throw in deep in Mountain Lion territory reached the feet of David Barden. UCCS goalkeeper Adam Liszewski was unable to make the save and the Skyhawks took an early 1-0 lead.

The Skyhawks increased the lead in the ninth minute when Kieran Hall collected a loose ball in the Mountain Lion penalty box and scored into the open net.

The Skyhawks started the second half almost as quickly as they did the first. In the 55th minute Jeff Jennings converted a penalty kick and after a Mountain Lion goalkeeper change Keane Hamilton scored four minutes later. Jennings sent a ball across the top of the UCCS penalty box and Hamilton launched a shot that deflected past UCCS goalkeeper Michael Bergren to give the Skyhawks a four-goal advantage.

Liszewski finished the game with five saves while Bergren had three in the final 34:32. Each gave up three goals.

The Skyhawks controlled the pace of the game for the entirety and wore down the Mountain Lion defense.

"They [Skyhawks] move the ball real well," said Jarad Giegler. "They keep the defenders moving around a lot with a lot of quick passes."

The Skyhawks' offensive prowess led to two goals in the 80th and 88th minute respectively to complete the 6-0 win.

The Mountain Lions play their final game of the season Sunday when they host the Mesa State Mavericks. Despite the loss to the Skyhawks, UCCS has the confidence to finish the season with a win.

"The last time we played Mesa it was a close game," said Giegler. "We'll come out on Sunday ready to play and hopefully we'll come out with a win."
