Andrea Weedman had 14 kills and Brooke Akers added 11 more but the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs was unable to break the Nebraska-Kearney jinx, losing to the Lopers 3-1 (32-30, 28-30, 30-20, 30-17) at the Health and Sports Center in Kearney, Neb.

The Mountain Lions are winless in 14 all-time meetings between the schools.

Kelli Bunger had 15 kills and sophomore Juli Minicz added 13 lead Nebraska-Kearney (13-5, 6-3 RMAC). The win ended a rare two-match losing streak for the Lopers.

UCCS (7-10, 4-5 RMAC) battled back from deficits in each of the first two games.

In Game 1, Nebraska-Kearney was ahead 24-20 and then 29-25 before UCCS scored four straight to fight off match point.

Tied at 30, a block by Steph Hoemann -- the first of her career -- and Emily Christen gave the Lopers a one point lead. One of the nine UCCS ball handling errors on the night ended the set and put UNK ahead 1-0.

The Lopers led 24-20 in Game 2 but two kills each by Weedman and Stephanie Laband spurred the Mountain Lions to a 10-4 run to even the match.

The Lopers took control of Game 3, breaking a 16-all tie with six straight points. A kill by Weedman helped the Mountain Lions close to 22-19, but Nebraska-Kearney answered with an 8-1 run to close out the game.

Nebraska-Kearney raced to a 10-4 lead in game 4. The Mountain Lions were never able to get closer than five afterwards.

The Mountain Lions will complete their Nebraska road trip Saturday evening with a match at Chadron State.
