Mines shuts out UCCS soccer

Brian Law scored twice to lead the Colorado School of Mines Orediggers to a 3-0 win over the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs Sunday afternoon at Golden.

Mines (7-3-1, 5-2 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) swept the season series against the Mountain Lions (4-7-1, 2-5-1 RMAC), outscoring UCCS 8-0.

Law opened the scoring in the seventh minute when he knocked in a Grant Manthey corner kick.

The Orediggers made it 2-0 in the 17th minute on Craig Thompsonâ€TMs sixth goal of the season. A shot by Travis Hutchinson hit the goal post and bounded to Thompson, who drilled it past UCCS goalkeeper Isaac Kostrow.

Law's second goal of the match, and fifth of the season, came on a long throw-in by Nao Lee.

The Mountain Lions struggled to mount an attack, managing just four shots, two of which were on goal.
