The Mountain Lions opened the first of a school-record seven-game homestand with a 2-1 win against Eastern New Mexico on Friday night. Bryan Stoeber notched his sixth and seventh goals of the season, recording his first career multi-goal game.

Stoeber registered the first goal just 1:45 into the match. Matt Eshbach took a corner kick from James McMonigle and laid a drop pass for Stoeber, who was making a delayed run up the center of the field. Stoeber drilled a hard shot from 12 yards past Eastern New Mexico goalkeeper Leif Craddock (2-7-1).

"Their defender mis-kicked the ball and I took it to the endline and cut back into the middle," said Eshbach. "He [Stoeber] called for it and I laid it off for him and he put it away."

The Greyhounds responded in the 10th minute when Keith Vargas flicked the ball over his right shoulder to a streaking Ryan McClanahan who gathered the ball in stride. McClanahan took a hard shot to the lower right corner. Mountain Lions goalkeeper Isaac Kostrow (1-3-1) was in position and made a diving attempt at the ball. However, Kostrow couldn't hang on to the hard shot.

Stoeber scored his second goal in the 57th minute when Guillermo Alcantara, who was surrounded by three Greyhounds, headed the ball back to Stoeber from the endline. Stoeber timed the bounce perfectly and scored in the upper right corner.

The Mountain Lions are now 5-0-1 this season when they score first and 0-7 when their opponents score first.

UCCS (5-7-1) is 2-1-1 in its past four matches.

The Mountain Lions host Westminister this Sunday at 1 p.m. in the second game of their homestand.
