Nolasco scores in overtime for 1-0 win over Regis

Juan Nolasco scored one minute, 38 seconds into overtime Sunday to give the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs Mountain Lions a 1-0 win over the Regis Rangers.

Early into the overtime period, Jeff Poburka collected a pass near the sideline at midfield and played a lateral pass to Eric Foulk, who was making a run up the middle. Foulk carried the ball 20 yards before sending a perfect through ball to Nolasco, who forced Regis goalkeeper Trevor Steege (3-9-1) to commit before sliding the ball into the lower right corner of the goal.

"I just ran up from the back and we made a counter-attack," said Foulk. "Juan made a good run and was able to put it away."

The goal was Nolasco's second of the season.

"I'm happy to get the win and get one for the fans," said Nolasco. "Both teams played really hard today and I'm just glad we were able to come out on top."

The match featured plenty of physical play during regualtion, a style of play that the Mountain Lions have not faced recently. However, the Mountain Lions stood their ground.

"I like the physical contact. I enjoy running into guys, mixing it up," said Foulk. "I think our team started to step up a little more today and knocked the other team around a little."

The victory over the Regis Rangers (3-11-2, 1-9-1 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) provided a good finish to the seven UCCS seniors honored at the Senior Day festivities prior to the match. Ironically, Nolasco and Foulk were among the honorees.

Nolasco's goal also snapped a three-game scoring draught for the Mountain Lions (8-10-1, 4-6-1 RMAC) which had lasted exactly 438 minutes. The goal the Mountain Lions scored before Sunday was in the 13th minute of their 1-0 win over Westminster on Oct. 1.

The win, coupled with Colorado State-Pueblo's loss to Metro State on Sunday, kept the Mountain Lions' slim playoff hopes alive. UCCS will face Colorado State-Pueblo Wednesday at Mountain Lion Stadium at 6 p.m.
