The Mountain Lions were officially eliminated from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference playoffs Friday as the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs was dominated 8-0 by the Fort Lewis Skyhawks at Durango.
The Skyhawks (15-1, 11-0 RMAC) scored just 1:56 into the match when Jon Boyer headed in a Kieran Hall crossing pass. Less than 12 minutes later, another Hall pass found Jon Cunliffe for a breakaway goal.
When the smoke cleared, Cunliffe, the nationâ€TMs leading scorer, had notched his 22nd and 23rd goals of the year and added an assist. Also scoring were David Barden, Chris Ye, Chase Mikkelsen, Bernardo Costa and Ryan Kerr.
UCCS (7-11-1, 3-7-1 RMAC) managed just nine shots, three of which required saves by Fort Lewis goalkeeper Ton Donley.
James Bjorklund made six saves for the Mountain Lions.
