The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs volleyball team came within a point of matching a school-record-tying eighth straight win Saturday night before falling to the New Mexico Highlands Cowgirls 3-2 (30-15, 22-30, 26-30, 31-29, 15-11) at Las Vegas, N.M.
Up two games to one, the Mountain Lions had a 29-28 lead and were serving for the match. Consecutive kills by Audra Williams and a block by Nikki Reveling, however, sent the match to a fifth game.
New Mexico Highlands and UCCS are now tied atop the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's Western Division with 5-1 records. The Cowgirls are 10-2 overall and the Mountain Lions are 8-6.
Diane Sheldon led UCCS with 16 kills, while Kelly Angel added 12. Freshman setters
Jessica Stewart and
Jocelyn Evans had 25 and 15 assists respectively.
