Meeter adds name to all-time list in win

Libero Laura Meeter had 38 digs, the second-highest total in school history, to lead the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs to a 3-1 (33-31, 30-22, 24-30, 30-26) victory over the Chadron State Eagles Saturday afternoon at Chadron, Neb.

The sophomore from Colorado Springs Christian School surpassed Melissa Clark's mark of 36 digs, set against Abilene Christian on Sept. 17, 1993. The school record is 43 by Leslie McKenzie against Denver on Oct. 22, 1992.

Overall, the Mountain Lions' defense produced 10 blocks and 100 digs. Offensively, they had 72 kills and 10 service aces compared to 43 and six by Chadron State. All of those numbers were needed to offset UCCS' 41 hitting errors and 10 service errors.

Diane Sheldon, a high school teammate of Meeter, led the Mountain Lions (9-6, 6-1 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) with 14 kills. Andrea Weedman added 13 kills, 23 digs and four aces, but also had 14 hitting errors. Jessica Stewart chipped in 31 of UCCS' 65 assists and Jill Wrenn had 12 kills.

Alysia Wardyn led Chadron State (2-16, 1-8 RMAC) with 15 kills.

The Mountain Lions departed immediately after the match to begin the 308-mile drive to Golden, Colo., where they will face Colorado School of Mines Sunday afternoon.
