Kelly Angel had 11 kills but the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs volleyball team fell to 1-5 with a 3-0 (30-14, 30-20, 30-26) loss to the Wayne State Wildcats Saturday afternoon at the Lions' Den.
The Mountain Lions again struggled with their own mistakes, committing 30 hitting errors, five service errors, three blocking errors, three ball handling errors and a rotation error. In all, UCCS mistakes accounted for 46.7 percent of Wayne State's points.
Additionally, the Mountain Lions had difficult with their sets in the first two games, accounting in large part for the many hitting errors and a poor .041 hitting percentage.
UCCS put its mistakes behind it for much of Game 3, surging to a 26-22 lead and threatening to take the match to a fourth game. Wayne State rallied for eight straight points, the final two on service aces, to close out the match.
Jacey Kuck Schwarz led Wayne State with 14 kills, while Emily Schroeder added 10. Julie Jacobsen was efficient as setter with 32 assists.
