DENVER - The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs soccer team continued its struggles, falling 3-0 to the Metro State Roadrunners Saturday at Auraria Field.

Senior goalkeeper Chris Hovasse made nine saves for the Mountain Lions, who are 1-6-1 in their past eight games.

Phillip Owen scored a goal and assisted on the other two as the Roadrunners improved to 12-4-1, 7-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. UCCS dropped to 5-8-1, 3-5-1 in the conference.

The Mountain Lions have been shut out in back-to-back games, the only two times they have been held scoreless this season.

The two teams played a scoreless first half in cloudy and chilly conditions. Less than 10 minutes into the second half, Shaun Elbaum converted a pass from Owen to make it 1-0. Owen controlled the ball on the left side of the box and when goalkeeper Chris Hovasse came out on him, Owen slid the ball over to Elbaum and Elbaum put it in on the right side of the box.

The Roadrunners scored just five-plus minutes later as Antonio Porras ran down the right side and passed the ball to Owen, who converted the shot for the goal. Porras then added the third goal when he took an Owen pass in the 79th minute.

"We were very fortunate to get those goals," said Roadrunner coach Ken Parsons.

Metro State outshot the Mountain Lions, 21-7, for the game, including 13-4 in the second period. Roadrunner goalkeeper David McReavy made one save to post the shutout.
