Adams State knocks off Mountain Lions in four

Things started well for the University at Colorado at Colorado Springs Friday evening in Alamosa. Unfortunately, the night ended with a loss as the Adams State Grizzles beat the Mountain Lions 3-1 (20-30, 30-24, 30-19, 30-24).

CU-Colorado Springs came out clicking on all cylinders. The Mountain Lions sprinted to a 17-5 lead in Game 1. Moments later, Jill Wrenn put the game away with one of her 10 kills as CU-Colorado Springs rolled the Grizzles 30-20. The Mountain Lions outhit Adams State .275 to .157 in the opening set.

CU-Colorado Springs' (11-11, 6-8 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) fortunes turned late in Game 2. Already leading 25-23, Adams State went on a 4-0 run capped off by back-to-back blocks by the combo of Ashton Thomas and Kalle Bingham to take control of the game. The Grizzles (12-9, 7-7) dominated the third game 30-19 before closing out the match with a 30-24 win.

CU-Colorado Springs was led by Caroline Ottino's 14 kills and a .344 hitting percentage. Setter Lindsey Hillegass also had 44 assists, eight kills and a .467 hitting percentage.

The loss was a tough one to swallow for a CU-Colorado Springs team that is fighting for a RMAC Tournament spot. The Mountain Lions at 6-7 in the RMAC have now fallen behind the Grizzles in the playoffs race. CU-Colorado Springs has another chance to pick up a big road win Saturday night against New Mexico Highlands in Las Vegas, NM.
