The Western State Mountaineers overcame a 14-11 deficit in the deciding fifth game by scoring five straight points defeat the CU-Colorado Springs Mountain Lions Friday night at the Lions' Den.

Western State took the fifth game 16-14 to win the match 3-1.

Jill Wrenn led the Mountain Lions with 19 kills. Wrenn, who was removed from redshirt status last week because of injuries, has 48 kills in her first three career matches.

Kristen Denman added 16 kills and a match-high 24 digs for CU-Colorado Springs. Caroline Ottino added 14 kills and led the team with eight blocks.

Western State's Sarah McKinley led all hitters with 21 kills. Naomi Zuniga added 17 kills and Heather Adams had 10.

CU-Colorado Springs again struggled with its serve, committing 17 service errors including one at match point in Game 5 that began the Western State comeback.

Western State rolled to a 19-8 lead in Game 1, but CU-Colorado Springs closed to 24-19 before the Mountaineers closed with a 6-1 run.

CU-Colorado Springs won the next two games 30-24 and 30-23 and was tied at 21 in Game 4 before Western rallied to tie the match.
