The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (5-22) lost to Colorado College (26-9) in three games at Reid Gymnasium Tuesday night. The Tigers trounced the Mountain Lions 30-27, 30-21, and 30-19.
The win gave Colorado College its first sweep in the season-series with the Mountain Lions since 1996. The Tigers beat CU-Colorado Springs in three games in the Lions' Den back on Sept 17.
Midway through Game 1 it looked as though it was going to be a tight match. Neither team held more than a two point lead. CU-Colorado Springs went up 23-21 on a
Linnlee Hansen kill. The Tigers responded with a 6-0 run which included three consecutive service aces by Ashley Bowron to take a commanding 27-23 lead.
Another large Tiger run blew open what was a close game in Game 2. With the match tied 17-17, Colorado College scored nine of the next 11 points and breezed o the nine point victory.
The Mountain Lions came out of the locker room to take their biggest lead of the match early in the third game. CU-Colorado Springs went up 6-2, before the Tigers rallied to tie the game then exploded with a 10-0 run to make the score 26-16.
CU-Colorado Springs hit just 0.74 for the match while the Tigers hit .259.
Caroline Ottino led CU-Colorado Springs with seven kills and
Olivia Rudolphi had a team-high 11 digs.
