Volleyball ends season on the road

The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs volleyball lost two games on the road over the weekend brining its season to end.

CU-Colorado Springs lost to the Western State Mountaineers 30-26, 30-28, 30-13 on Friday in Gunnison before losing to the Mesa State Mavericks 27-30, 30-28, 30-14, 30-20 Saturday night in Grand Junction.

In Game 1 versus Western State CU-Colorado Springs hit as well as they have all season. The Mountain Lions hit a stunning .419 in the opener but still came up short thanks to a 6-1 Western run late in game.

The Mountain Lions solid play didn't return in games two and three as Western State breezed to two wins to close out the match.

Jill Wrenn had 16 kills and hit .303 to lead the Mountain Lions. Lindsey Hillegass had 30 assists and three digs

Much like they did on Friday the Mountain Lions played very well early on Saturday against Mesa State.

CU-Colorado Springs used a 7-1 run to break open Game 1 and take a 27-22 lead. A few points later a Caroline Ottino kill gave CU-Colorado Springs the 30-27 win. It was the first game the Mountain Lions had won the road since Sept 20 against Fort Lewis.

The Mountain Lions lost a hard-fought Game 2 30-28. Mesa State out-hit the Mountain Lions in Game 3 .342 to .000 en-route to the a 30-14 win before winning Game 4 30-20.

Kristen Denman led the Mountain Lions with 14 kills while Ottino had 14 and Wrenn added 11. Hillegass had 44 assists and 15 digs.

Senior Jessica Hollingshead ended her career with a solid 15 dig performance. Fellow senior Olivia Rudolphi added three kills, seven digs, and two blocks.
