CU-Colorado Springs wraps up playoff spot with 1-1 tie against Fort Lewis College

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The CU-Colorado Springs men's soccer team clinched a spot in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference playoffs for the third consecutive year Sunday by battling to a 1-1 tie with Fort Lewis College at 4-Diamond Complex.

The tie earns the Mountain Lions the third seed in next week's RMAC Tournament, with the site yet to be determined. CU-Colorado Springs moved its record to 12-5-1 overall and 6-4-1 in the RMAC, while Fort Lewis is 14-2-2 overall and 9-2-1 in the RMAC.

The Mountain Lions jumped out to an early leage when sophomore Adam Ewig fired a direct kick past Fort Lewis goalie Steve Berglund just seven minutes into the game. Alex Zametkin answered for the Skyhawks in the 39th minute by deflecting a shot by Brent Diaz past Lions goalie Mike Archuleta.

Archuleta came up big early in the overtime, however, by stopping a penalty kick from Fort Lewis' Calum Robertson just 15 seconds into the first overtime period. The Skyhawks' Dio Cifuni broke through the Lions' defense and was taken down in the box to set up the penalty kick. ARchuleta had to make only two saves in the game, while Berglund recorded seven.
