Heather Bates finished second at the Fort Hays State Tiger Open on Saturday with 17 minutes and 28 seconds on the five-kilometer course in Hays, Kan. Bates led UCCS to a third-place team finish behind two teams ranked in the top five of the latest national poll. It was the third race this season that Bates has finished as the individual champion or runner-up.
