Dr. Ross Aron Schumer is an orthopedic sports medicine surgeon specializing in injuries of the shoulder, knee, foot and ankle.

Dr. Schumer joined UC Health after a decorated career as an Air Force Orthopedic Surgeon.  He currently serves as team physician at the United States Air Force Academy, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs and ASD20.

Dr. Schumer practices medicine with the following philosophy - “No two people are the same and each individual deserves a personalized approach to their health care.  Every patient has a goal, whether it be to get through their day with less pain or return to the sport they love.  It is my privilege to help them achieve that goal.’’

After graduating from the United States Air Force Academy, he attended medical school at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, PA, followed by an orthopedic surgery residency at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio.  Dr. Schumer then returned to the Air Force Academy where he developed a special interest in sports medicine and sports related injuries of the foot and ankle.  This sparked him to complete a fellowship in Orthopedic Sports Medicine and Foot and Ankle Surgery at the University of Iowa.  Dr. Schumer then spent two years as a staff orthopedic surgeon at the San Antonio Military Medical Center prior to returning to his alma mater at the Air Force Academy to finish his active duty career.

In addition to serving as team physician at the Air Force Academy, he also has provided medical coverage for the Department of Defense Warrior Games; Randolph AFB High School in San Antonio, Texas; South Texas Amateur Boxing Association; USA Rugby 2016 Training Camp; University of Iowa; Cornell College; and the Air Force Academy’s Preparatory School.

Dr. Schumer continues to serve as an Air Force reserve flight surgeon at Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado Springs. He is published in numerous medical journals, has presented at national and regional medical conferences and authored book chapters in medical textbooks.
