Nieves Fernández López

Nieves Fernández López enters her second season as a Graduate Assistant Coach for the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) women’s soccer program in 2025. She brings a diverse background in player development, strength and conditioning, video and data analysis, and injury prevention, with experience across Spain, the United States, and international competition.

Before joining UCCS, Fernández gained valuable experience as a coach and performance specialist with Club Unión Collado Villalba in Madrid, where she worked with girls’ teams ages 7–14 while also serving as strength and conditioning coach for the senior men’s squad. She additionally contributed to the women’s program by coordinating development initiatives and managing community outreach. Her club-level work was complemented by a role at Best Athletes Center, where she provided strength and rehab training to athletes across multiple sports.

Her international résumé includes serving as a head coach at Real Madrid Foundation clinics across major U.S. cities, working as a translator and assistant at the Royal Spanish Football Federation’s international camps, and coaching at Camp Nashoba North in the United States. She has also been involved in player scouting and recruiting, supporting talent evaluation at high-profile events such as Surf Cup and ID Camps in California.

In addition to her coaching duties, Fernández has a strong background in applied sports science. She has participated in research projects with ThermoHuman, collaborating with professional organizations such as FC Barcelona and Club Deportivo Guadalajara (Chivas) on injury prevention and load monitoring. She holds a UEFA A License, multiple certifications in strength training, performance analysis, and injury prevention, and is currently pursuing a General MBA with an emphasis in Sport Management at UCCS.
